Orca K1

The years Orca K1 is a challenging course with the 4 of the 7 K2 category hills included in the race. 

This years Orca K1 starts in Tairua with Pumpkin Hill followed by rolling countryside into Whitianga. The 2nd stage is probably the toughest stage on the course with three major hills including the Whangapoua hill to finish with.

There are two races

1. The Elite Womens Orca K1 - starts at 11.45am

2. The Main Orca K1 - staggered starts from 12.00pm

Preparation

The Orca K1 is a reasonably  tough course. We would recommend that you get some training in on the course. We would also recommend that you check out the training programme on this website.

Participation

The event is open to individuals and tandem riders

Individuals / Tandem Riders

Riders need not stop at the transitions areas at the end of each stage, but may wish to use these for re-fueling and rest.

o Junior 2 - (14 -15 years)
o Junior 3 – (16 -18 years)
o Under 23
o Senior
o Masters (35-44)
o Vets (45-54)
o Classic (55-64)
o Vintage (65+)

The race is limited to riders of 14 and over

Overall Race - The first three places will be recognized in the mens and womens

Transport

Transport will be available first thing on Saturday morning to take competitors from Coromandel to the start in Tairua. Bikes will need to be left at the registration area in Tairua !
