K2 - Main Race |
Preparation
The K2 is undoubtedly one of the toughest cycling challenges you will encounter.
To enjoy it you should prepare yourselves carefully. We would thoroughly
recommend that you practice on the course before the event and get plenty
of training in on hilly terrain. Alos have alook at the training programme
on this website devised by Paul Leitch a former Commonwealth cyclist.
Participation
The event is open to individuals, tandem riders, relay teams of four or two and there is a special schools team category (teams of 4).
Categories
Categories follow the standard Bike NZ system and the following age categories are recognised:
o Junior – Under 15
o Junior - Under 17
o Junior – Under 19
o Under 23
o Senior
o Masters 1 (35-39)
o Masters 2 (40-44)
o Vets 1 (45-49)
o Vets 2 (50-54)
o Classic 1 (55-59)
o Classic 2 (60-64)
o Vintage 1 (65+)
Prize / Competition
Overall Race - The first three places will be recognized in the mens and womens
Age Categories – The winner of each age category will be recognized in the mens and womens
King and Queen of the Mountains
Points will be awarded to the first three riders depending on the category
of the hill ( see detailed rules. The first three places will be recognized
in the mens and women.
