TRAINING

Many cyclists come and train on the course in the few months prior to the event. There is nothing better than training on the Coromandel Hills to get your self prepared.

We do however have a couple of requests for those of you planning to train on the course:

1. Limit group sizes to ten or less for safety reasons
2. Be very careful on the hills and particularly on the descents of the following hills:
     a. Myundermans (just after Kuoatunu) – the bottom of this steep descent can be tricky
     b. Kuoatunu Hill – has a number of steep corners
     c. Whangapoua Hill – very fast and steep corners with a 15km corner at the bottom

Race Rules and Race Notes

Please click here to view the K2 Race Rules and Rules of Road Cycling Etiquette.

The specific detailed race rules for each event will be posted closer to the event.

Aid Stations

This years K2 will have the following aid stations around the course.

Aid Station 1 -  2/3rds of the way up Pumpkin Hill

Aid Station 2 -  3/4 of the way up Kuaotunu Hill

Aid Station 3  -  Top of the Whangapoua Hill

Aid Station 4 -   Kereta Hill  - On 2nd incline

The bottles will be filled with electrolytes or water -  Each aid station will have 4 people handing out bottles to riders. The first two in in the line will hand out electrolytes the others will hand out plain water. Riders will also be able to stop and help themselves to fluids and jelly beans and bananas.

There will also be an aid station near the halfway mark on Buffalo Road, just as you leave Whitianga.  Riders can have food parcels delivered here to the half way point (not 6.00am starters).  You need to drop them off at the start area and we will drive them round. They should be clearly marked. Both of these aid stations require you to stop. Please note bags will not be returned, so please ensure they are disposable.

Under no circumstances are support people allowed to hand out food to riders along the course. Support crew are not allowed to follow riders around the course. This is for safety reasons.
