Support Crew / Spectators
It is not necessary for riders in the White Start Intrigue to have a support crew. Each of the events finishes close to where the event starts.
The transition area at the end of the first stage provides a good vantage point for spectators or support crew to see their riders.
It is however a long and challenging event and riders should carry sufficient fluids and fuel to see them through the race. Water and Leppin will be available at the transition area at the White Star Station at the end of stage 1.
Competitors will need to carry out their own repairs on the course, although they may be assisted in the transition area.
Equipment
Competitors should carry the following equipment:
• Approved safety helmet
• Pump
• Spare tubes
• Puncture repair kit
• Tyre leavers
• Multi-purpose tool
• Chain breaker
• Spare chain link
• Chain lube and a brush (if wet and muddy)
• Windproof/waterproof jacket (recommended)
• Polyprop/Merino top and bottoms (recommended)
Competitors are advised to get their bikes properly serviced prior to the event.
The majority of the event is off road with some steep and fast descents. It is essential that you have good tryes, that your brakes are functioning well and that you have no stress fractures on your bike.
You should have the ability to:
• Repair a puncture
• Repair a broken chain
Recommend that you practice both of the above – it makes it easier when it does happen during an event.
Numbers
Each individual and team member will be provided with a number which must be placed on the front of the bike and clearly visisble.
Timing
Timing will be recorded at the transition area at the end of stage 1 and at the finish line. The results will be displayed on this website on the Sunday following the race.
Safety / Security
The event will be supported by comprehensive safety back up including a team of paramedics. There will be first aid people on duty at the transition area and at the finish line.
Consideration for the land
To enable us to run this event we have sought permission from a number of private landowners and interested parties. It is important that we treat the land that we pass through with respect.
To this end it is a compulsory requirement that everyone carry out their own rubbish. Support crews and spectators should be conscious of keeping the transition areas clean of rubbish and using the rubbish containers provided.
Officials
Competitors / Spectators and Support crew must respect the instructions given
to them by race officials and marshals regarding health, safety and security.
