2020 ARC Announced
Our next ARC Adventure Race "Raiders of the last ARC" will be our 20th Anniversary.
Race Update 1
Only 6 weeks until the ARC Adventure Race
We already have 70 teams entered and so it will be a record turnout for the last ARC
A few notes to help you with your preparation.
- If you are needing to hire double kayaks for the event, please ring FERGS kayaks directly on 09-529-2230 and speak to Paul or Simon
- Only the 24 and 16 hour teams will require wetsuits, not the 8 hour teams
- All competitors will require life jackets
- A logistics plan will be sent out the week before the event, so you can prepare food etc for each stage
- This years race has a Rogaine format
- No team (unless they are super human) will get all the checkpoints , so strategy will be critical. There are a huge number of checkpoints with 40 in the 8 hour race and over 80 in the 24 hour race. They all have differing point values and it will be the team with the most points that wins.
- The maps will be Topo maps with 20 metre contours. Full map corrections have been done and the maps scales will vary, but will typically be 1:30,000 for ease of reading
- The area has hill up to 600m, so make sure you prepare well
- Electronic punching will be used, and all team members will need to go to the checkpoint to get a result.
- Results will be live as you finish, plus you will have printouts to show your split times.
- Start time will be 8.00am, 9:00am and 10.00am for the 24, 16 and 8 hour races respectively
- Prize Giving will be on the Sunday morning at 10.00am at the event centre, which is close to Coromandel Town
- Accommodation for the weekend will be quite tight so make sure you book somewhere
Hope the training is going well
All the best

Race Update 2
Only 3 weeks now until the ARC Adventure Race
We are up to 80 teams entered and it will be a record turnout for the last ARC
A few extra notes to help you with your preparation.
- The ground is hard and dry – so think about your mountain bike tyres for the event. We would recommend tubeless tyres as you may be going through some delightful gorse country
- 24 and 16 hour teams will need a high-vis vest or band so that you will be seen at night on the roads
- To give you a rough idea of what to expect
- The ARC 24 has 6 stages –
- 1 Kayak/Trek combo
- 2 Trek
- 3 MTB
- The ARC 16 – has 3 stages
- The Kayaking option
- 1 Kayak / Trek combo
- 1 MTB
- I Trek
- The -non-kayak option
- 1 Mtb / Trek / Tubing combo
- 1 MTB
- 1 Trek
- The ARC 8 Hour
- 1 Mtb / Trek / Tubing combo
- 1 MTB
- 1 Trek
- Unless you are a Cures Kid team you will be unsupported which means you will need to provide your own food/ fluids for the race. There will be water available at the transition areas.
- We will be sending out a logistics plan the week before the race that will help you with you planning
Team captains – please ensure you get all your team to enter their details on the online entry system – this is an important part of our safety procedures.
Hope the training is going well
All the best

Race Update 3
Less than 2 weeks now until the ARC Adventure Race - Hope you are all well prepared.
88 teams entered and 292 – so it is definitely a record turnout for the last ARC.
We have had a quite a few enquiries about what sort of whip is required? – You will be pleased to know that you don’t actually need one – its just our warped sense of humour (hope none of you have actually purchased one – if you have we are sure you will find a good use for it!)
The 24 and 16 hour teams however will definitely need a wetsuit and all participants will need a life jacket.
If this is your first email – please check race updates 1 and 2 which are on the website.
We are very strict when it comes to matters concerning our environment. So please all of you make sure you give all your gear a good clean before coming down to the Coromandel, particularly shoes and your mountain bike. We will have kauri dieback cleaning stations at the entrants and exits to the forest park and it is essential you take the time to use them.
We are also very strict about rubbish and penalties will be incurred for any team seen littering.
We have a person wanting to join a 24 hour team. Jason Brown is experienced and is looking for a team-mate for the 24 hour or would join a team -021849561 and jasonbrown929@gmail.com
Team captains – please ensure you get all your team to enter their details on the online entry system – this is an important part of our safety
Race Announcement
Indiana Jones and Girl friend
We have had a request from Lucas films to run an audition during the ARC Race Briefing. Harrison Ford is a bit past it these days and the studio is keen to run another sequel. To cut a long story short if any of you would like to take part in the audition, dress up and come on stage, we will carry out an audience vote and the winners will win a nice prize and photographs will be sent onto the studio.
A small hint from the studio is that they are looking for rugged, for Indiana, not his girlfriend, and the ability to do more than 2 facial expressions. Adroit use of a whip would also come in handy.
Race Update 4 - Logistics
To help you all with your preparation the following is a broad logistics plan for the various events

ARC 16 - KAYAK
ARC 16 - NON-KAYAK
